The Columns
This house was built in 1902 for J. Matthew Cartwright and his wife, Emmie, by ship builder Mr. Ketchum.
The house contains 1 ton of nails and has 8 fireplaces. Mr. Ketchum went to several sawmills and hand picked all heart pine. He would not accept pine with knots.
It took one year to build the Columns, and the house remained in the Cartwright family until 2001.
The property is now owned by Earle and Verna Chumley and is operated as Bed and Breakfast facility.
